Life is an illusion - (anti) book review

Life is an illusion, it's an amazing book. It's a pity that it's not very positive. I opened it by focusing on a philosophical story in which I could find myself or stumble upon some golden idea. Meanwhile, to be honest, I still don't know what it's about.

The main character and the narrator are both a lost man searching for the meaning of life. We meet with him when he and a gang of criminals are preparing another attack on a trading caravan. The main character (anonymous throughout the book) suddenly realizes that he does not want to live like this, robbing and killing, that he expects something more from life. After this outburst, she decides to separate from the group. His plans are hindered by the fact that the caravan they are attacking turns out to be owned by a magician. A bad magician shoots fireballs for fun and watches people burn. From now on, everything gets more complicated. The boys run away to the city, trying to hide there and think about what to do next. The main character still wants to separate from the group, but doesn't have the courage to tell the rest. Suddenly, he notices a beautiful girl in a tavern and decides that she is his destiny.

This further complicates the situation. The main character, trying to get to her from the other end of the dining room, falls among the militants, is accidentally accused of murder, tries to escape, but they catch him, then he runs away again, they chase him again, and he hides. Meanwhile, he takes some drugs obtained from a fellow prisoner, he gets into an underground secret organization, trying to initiate an uprising, it is unknown for what reason, the magician mentioned earlier catches him, he escapes, the magician chases him, and then it is almost impossible to guess what is happening to the hero and why. The final moral of the book is probably that the meaning of life is... death.

Philosophy does appear, but it is extremely superficial. There are no golden thoughts that I was hoping for, there are even no general thoughts, almost all of them relate only directly to the Hero. Besides, unfortunately, they mostly consist of self-pity and how the Hero ruined his life. If only he would try to do something about this life... At this time, the Reader gets the impression that the Hero is surrendering to the course of events, each time coming to the conclusion that he is hopeless and that he has lost his own life. In addition, it is extremely resistant to external signals or warnings. He seems to be listening to them attentively and analyzing them, but in fact he continues to work in his own way. He tries his best not to notice that every time his beautiful mysterious lover appears, something bad happens. In the narrative, he himself claims that he does not trust certain characters appearing in the novel, and yet stubbornly throws out the whole truth about himself, laying out all the cards on the table. It's hard to feel sorry for a Hero who pushes into a swamp alone. L'assimilation des modalités de mise est indispensable pour convertir vos primes en espèces sonnantes et trébuchantes.
